Gulet Boat Cruises
in Turkey
The term Gulet
which comes from the the French word
golette (schooner)
and is a
traditional Turkish broad-beamed wooden coastal sailing
vessel that has a raised bow, a broad, flat
stern, a main foremast and secondary mast aft.
These days
gulets
in Turkey are mostly configured as
motor-sailers,
with diesel engines to for primary power, and sails to
provide additional power, or the main source of power in
strong winds. This means you can sail silently when the
wind allows, but go wherever you want with motor power.
Gulets are
particularly good as pleasure sailing vessels because of
their broad beam,
which gives them lots of
deck space—particularly
and plenty of rooms for
spacious cabins below the deck.
Gulets
come in a range of sizes and some are the most luxurious
vessels you can imagine. Gulet boat cruises have
become incredibly popular with the very wealthy and the
general tourist alike and a cruise on a traditional
Turkish gulet is an excellent way to see the southern
part of Turkey as well as an unforgettable experience. |
